Peace In His Power (Ps 62:5-12)
God's sovereign will is eternal, such that it issues from the unimpeachable counsel of the Trinity before all worlds; it is immutable, such that it stands in unchangeable security without the least possibility of being thwarted or altered. In every part, God's sovereign will is infused with his infinite wisdom such that no wiser or more perfect plan could ever be conceived, with his holiness such that it is free from even the faintest spec of corruption, and his omnipotence such that nothing in all creation shall ever be able to resist even the most inconsequential aspect of it.
How strange it is then when we who claim to know the Almighty God and to be the very children of his love dwell in restless fretting and fearful insecurity. No deeper or more formidable stronghold of peace could ever be provided for our souls. Therefore, let us learn to say with Scripture:
5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah9 Those of low estate are but a breath;
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
10 Put no trust in extortion;
set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, set not your heart on them.11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12 and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.(Psalm 62:5-12)
