Psalm 4 | Remember & Rejoice

Note: This post is part of a series of brief devotional reflections upon the Psalms. Before reading the devotional below, take a moment to open your Bible and read the entirety of Psalm 4:1-8.

"You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound."
- Psalm 4:7

Everyone is happy when the harvest is plentiful, but only the godly are still found rejoicing in the midst of drought. How? By recalling the faithfulness of God. The psalmist wars against his circumstantial discouragement by remembering former times when God has given him relief from his distress. He weighs the unknown outcomes of his life by the known character of his God, and therefore he has hope.

The struggles of life can take away the things we hold dear, but if our life is truly built upon the Rock they ought not take away our joy. Why? Because God is ever-faithful. Are you facing a trial? Are you caught in a tempest? Rouse your spirit by this sure way: Remember the faithfulness of God! There is an immeasurable storehouse of joy available to the suffering saint in the memory of God's unfailing promises to his people. Has your Lord not been faithful to you until this very hour? Has he not promised to worked all your miseries for joy? Surely his faithfulness will endure. Remember and rejoice!
